Wednesday & Friday 1:30pm-2:45pm
The Rye Arts Center is committed to making the arts accessible to those with varying abilities and backgrounds. These specialized classes stimulate mind, body and emotion in an enjoyable and safe environment. They offer participants the opportunity to learn from professionally trained dancers about stretching and strengthening muscles, with an emphasis on enhancing physical awareness and grace through modern, ballet and folk dance forms.
The Ballet Class
The Ballet Class was founded in 1978 by Lynne Stetson, who danced in the New York City Ballet for nine years under the direction of George Balanchine. In 2007 the stewardship of The Ballet Class and its traditions were assumed by its current director Celeste Morningstar, who previously taught at the school for 20 years and danced professionally in Arizona Ballet and American Festival Ballet. It is located at The Rye Arts Center.
The Ballet Class provides classical ballet training for children between the ages of 5 and 18 with varying levels of experience and accomplishment. The younger students learn the fundamentals of ballet while older students study technique, pointe, partnering and variations. Students who attend The Ballet Class from September – June are given an opportunity to perform on stage in a recital at the end of the year.
